Description

St Michael’s Cottage is a 16th or early 17th century building, originally constructed of flint and brick. It is two storeys and has an attic. The windows are 3 flush-frame sash windows at the first floor, with glazing bars. The front features a 6-panel door set within a wooden case, with a flat hood supported by shaped brackets, enclosing a winding stair, and covered by a pantile roof. To the left of the door is a flush-frame sash window with glazing bars, and to the right are an additional door and window. The roof is pantiled, with a gabled dormer and a steep pitched gable at the north end, displaying a carved bracket below the gable. A central wooden look-out turret is also present. The exterior is unsymmetrical.

Inside, the cottage features stop-chamfered hewn beams, early 17th century moulded panelled doors, and panelling at the first floor. Leaded borrowed light is also visible. A triangular, single-storey wing extends from the north side of the building. It forms a group with St Michael’s House and Sunnyville, Red Lion Yard.
