Description
The Hastings Arms Public House is an 18th-century building located on the south side of George Street. It features a stuccoed front with a parapet and stands three storeys tall, with two windows across the front. The windows are sash style with glazing bars and have moulded architraves, while the first floor includes cornices. The ground floor has a mid-19th century public house front characterized by flat pilasters and a cornice, with round-headed lights for the windows and doors located at each end. The roof is steep-pitched and covered with tiles, featuring gable ends.
Inside, there is an 18th-century staircase that has a string, moulded balusters, and a rail. There are also reputedly secret cupboards located under the first-floor windows, which contain only one remaining slim barrel, believed to have been used for evading duty.
All listed buildings on George Street are part of a group value context.
