Description

This is an early 16th-century hall house, later altered in the 18th century and the late 20th century, and now used as a veterinary surgery with a flat above, and cottages. The building has a rectangular plan of four framed bays, with the original hall located in the centre. It is timber framed, with some sections encased in brick and others in rendered brick, and has an old tile gabled roof. The building is two storeys high and features a central chimney. A black painted plinth runs along the base. The front of numbers 44 and 44A is rendered, with two bays containing 20th-century three-light casement windows. A small 19th-century casement window is on the first floor to the right. A 20th-century planked entrance door is in the centre, alongside a three-light casement window, both set under a segmental arched head. Numbers 40 and 42 are brick-faced, with a similar arrangement of casement windows, slightly more widely spaced. Two entrance doors are set between the windows: a planked door on the left, and a half-glazed door on the right.
