Description

The Lakes is a cottage located on Walthem Road, dating from the early 17th century with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. The building features a timber frame that is faced in brick, topped with an old tile gabled roof and a central chimney on the ridges. It stands two storeys tall with an entrance front comprising two bays. On both floors, there are 2-light 19th-century casement windows, with those on the ground floor having segmental arches above them, along with a central door. There is a small 20th-century extension with a tiled lean-to roof on both the left and right sides. Inside, the principal beams on the ground floor are stop-chamfered and have carved stops, and there is a large inglenook fireplace with a substantial bread oven that projects out at the rear of the house.
