Description
This cattle shelter, located 430 metres off Church Lane to the northeast of Old Parsons Cottage, dates from the late 15th century. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, topped with a half hipped corrugated iron roof. The structure has a rectangular plan consisting of three bays, with one bay on the left and two bays on the right that are 19th-century extensions. The original 15th-century frame is notable, featuring heavy posts with jowls and most of the original rafters intact, which show rafter holes at their feet. It includes queen post trusses with clasped purlins and constant principal rafters. The tie beams are positioned only 5 feet 6 inches above the floor level.
