Description
Linhay at Whites Farm is a double fronted cattle shelter with fodder accommodation above, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, and altered in the 20th century. It is constructed from local chert rubble and brick, featuring weather boarding and rendered block front and rear elevations. The roof is covered with corrugated metal, which conceals remnants of combed wheat reed thatch beneath. The structure has a four bay double fronted plan oriented northwest, situated between the house and an adjacent barn. The southwest gable is made of chert rubble and has a pitching door, while the northeast gable is obscured by an attached lean-to. The southeast and northwest elevations are weatherboarded at the first floor, with painted blockwork below. Inside, there are three sling braced trusses with supporting front posts resting on stone blocks, and the ground floor is axially divided by a chert stone rubble wall.
