Description

A row of five cottages, likely dating from around 1780, with extensions added in 1870. The cottages are built of brick, featuring decorative grey brick patterns within the gables. They have gabled roofs covered in old tiles, with a decorative ridge tile running along the top. The layout is long and rectangular, with two gabled extensions at each end.

The cottages are two storeys high, with three brick chimneys topped with clay pots. Windows are predominantly horizontal sash windows from the 18th and 19th centuries, featuring glazing bars. Some later windows, also with glazing bars and curved heads, have been added in the 20th century.

The south-west front of the row is symmetrical. The central bay has a pedimented gable with decorative eaves, a finial incorporating a weathervane, and a carved stone panel in the triangular space above, bearing the inscription "18 I.H. 70". This central bay has a blind window on the first floor and a plank entrance door on the ground floor. The two outer gables are single-bay wide. Flanking the central bay are two sections, each with three bays. The middle bay of each section is blind on the first floor, while the ground floor has a plank entrance door – the door on the left is sheltered by a 20th-century enclosed gabled porch with a half-glazed door. The entrances to Greenways Cottage and Rose Cottage are located on the side fronts of the building.
