Description
The garden wall and garden rooms, built in the 19th century, are located 4 metres southeast of Hamstead Lodge. The structure features a brick wall that is rendered on the southeast side, topped with stone capping and dressings. The wall stretches approximately 20 metres and stands around 4 metres high, with rooms located at the rear, including one at the far southwest end that has a semi-circular plan.
The southeast elevation of the wall is punctuated by piers at regular intervals, each adorned with strapwork decoration and topped with moulded stone corniced caps that are surmounted by stone balls. The wall ramps up to each pier. Notable features include an arched niche that displays a classical lions head mask over a stone basin, flanked by composite pilasters that support a semicircular arch with a moulded keystone, situated between the second and third piers from the left. Additionally, there is a circular window and door in an architrave between the third and fourth piers, and a square-headed opening in an architrave between the fourth and fifth piers. The wall then ramps down and continues to the far right, where it includes a 2-light window with a depressed arched head and a door beneath a simple porch.
