Description
Batten's Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It has two storeys and an attic, topped with a plain tile roof that is gabled to the right. The building features a combination of materials, including part flint with brick quoins and dressings, and part brick. The southwest front is predominantly brick, with a central section that includes two-light stone mullioned casement windows, which have 19th-century lights. There is an 18th-century arched doorway with a six-panelled door and a radiating fanlight, located under a greenhouse porch to the left. The gable to the right is made of flint with brick dressings and has a single attic window, along with two windows on each floor below, featuring 19th-century vertical sliding sashes in altered openings. At the eastern end of this wing is a large chimney stack with three diamond shafts and a blocked stone mullioned window. There is also a 19th-century and modern red brick wing with an angular bay to the left. Inside, there is a 17th-century staircase with turned balusters in the central entrance hall, which also has a large 17th-century fireplace. The right wing contains a large moulded beam that supports the first floor, featuring a double roll mould and stop.
