Description
The building is a weatherboard barn with an attached yard wall, located at Hookend Farm on the north side of the farmyard. The barn likely dates from the late 18th century and incorporates some earlier timber. It has been altered over time, while the yard wall was built in the mid to late 19th century. The barn is timber-framed and features weatherboard cladding on a brick and flint plinth. It has a half-hipped plain tile roof, with Welsh slate covering the rear aisle and midstray.
The barn consists of three bays and includes an aisle on the north side, with central opposing cart-entries that have double board doors. The north-side entry is under a half-hipped gable, while the south-side entry is in a later pent-roofed midstray, which has late 20th-century weatherboarding on the right. There is also a later shelter-shed addition across the left bay, which is not of special interest.
From the southeast corner of the barn, the yard wall extends across the farmyard, featuring rounded brick coping and a gateway at the barn end, which has a replacement gate that is not of special interest. Inside the barn, the timber frame is preserved, including jowelled wall posts that are straight-braced to the wall-plate and arch-braced to the tie-beams. The roof structure includes collared queen-post trusses, clasped purlins, wind braces, some replacement rafters, and an inserted ridge-piece, with the rear right bay heightened.
