Description

The building at Hookend Farm consists of a flint barn, an attached flint shelter shed now used as cattle boxes, and a section of yard wall, all forming the south-east corner of the farmyard. This structure dates from the mid to late 19th century and features flint with a brick plinth, quoins, pilaster strips, bands, and surrounds to openings, while the yard wall is made of red brick. The roofs are covered with plain tiles.

The barn is an aisled four-bay structure with a four-bay shelter shed located to the rear left. On the east elevation, the second bay includes a tall, gabled cart-entry with a double door made of boards and a weatherboarded gable. The roof is half-hipped and has cambered-arched openings in each gable, along with slit vents on the right return. An addition on the right side is not considered of special interest.

At the rear, there is a similar opposing cart-entry. The shelter shed, which projects on the right, has its front infilled with weatherboarding and vertical boarding, featuring three stable doors. The gable has a hipped roof and is connected to a short section of yard wall with rounded brick coping.

Inside the barn, there are reused jowelled wall posts, iron-bolted, braced, collared queen-post trusses, two tiers of clasped purlins, and a boarded roof. The internal lining is primarily brick, mostly in stretcher bond.
