Description
The building is a threshing barn located at Bothampstead Farm, approximately 50 metres southwest of the farmhouse. It dates from the late 17th century and was extended in the 18th century. The barn is timber framed with a gabled and half-hipped iron roof, and it is weatherboarded. It consists of four framed bays, two of which have a double queen post roof and two with a queen post roof. The jowled posts are characteristic of the 17th-century construction, while the extension features plain posts.
Adjoining the barn to the west are the stables, which were built in the late 18th century. These stables are constructed of brick and have an old tile roof that is half-hipped on the left and gabled on the right. The stables feature a central planked loading door with a small gable above it, and below this is a four-light window with a segmental arch. To the right, there is a hide entry, and to the left, a smaller stable door from the 20th century.
