Description

Nos 7 to 11 on Northbrook Street, dating from around 1669, are a group of buildings that have been altered, including a rebuild at the rear. The structure stands three storeys tall with attics and features a projecting front with four windows. The roofs are tiled, and there are two tile-hung gables facing the street, adorned with bargeboards and pendants that are inscribed with '1669'. The front is made of red brick with Doric and Ionic brick pilasters acting as pedestals between the window bays on the first and second floors. There is a wooden modillion eaves cornice and two-light attic casements with glazing bars. The sash windows have gauged flat red brick arches and exposed boxing. A modern shopfront has been added, and there is a gabled staircase projection at the rear, which is now enclosed within the shop, with the window blocked.

Inside, there is a 17th-century staircase featuring a moulded handrail and turned balusters, although the balustrade on the top flight and the upper balusters have been renewed in pine. The painted ceiling of the staircase includes moulded ribs, a cherubs medallion, and an egg and tongue cornice.
