Description
The Old House, dated 1636, is a two-storey building with attics in the gables, featuring an H-shaped front and an E-shaped rear. It has five bays at the front and five at the back, constructed of red brick. The wings display a stringcourse above the ground floor and a cornice above the first floor, with console brackets at the corners and shaped gables topped with triangular apices. The south wing appears to have been extended to connect with the other wings. Above this wing are two blind shaped gables containing oval panels. Between the first-floor windows is a moulded oval panel set within a rectangular moulded panel that bears the date 1636. All windows are sash windows with dripstones above, although the attic window in the north gable is a casement window with small square leaded panes and features a pediment above it. The south wing includes a modern porch. A portion of two window bays has been added at the northern end in recent times, while a similar addition at the southern end has been removed. The brickwork at the rear has been recently re-pointed. The centre bay has a small broken pediment on a shaped gable above an oval brick panel, with shaped gables featuring triangular apices over the end projecting bays.
