Description
Burmester Gate at Mickleham Parish Church is a Grade II listed gateway and gates designed in the form of a folly, dating from around 1870. The structure is made of wood, including poles and wattles, and features cast iron ornamentation and studs, topped with a tiled roof. The front facing the churchyard has a round-headed arch flanked by double pilasters filled with wattles, with a tiled gable above that is also decorated with pieces of wattles. The rear side has an arch and two square pilasters made of horizontal wattles and poles. Attached to the gate are wooden gates, each consisting of six open panels adorned with iron studs, decorative dog grates, and trefoil-shaped finials. This structure served as a pathway between the Old Rectory and St Michael's Church, functioning as both a garden folly and a gateway.
