Description

This garden seat, located approximately 70 metres northwest of Woolley House, dates from around 1800 and was altered in the 19th century. It is constructed from glazed blue brick in Flemish bond, with red brick and ashlar dressings, and features a concealed plain tile roof. The structure has an ashlar plinth, an impost band, and coping. It includes an elliptical archway that houses a wooden distyle in antiscolonnade, which has an entablature with a frieze featuring metopes and a guttal tympanum that is pebbledash-rendered. The parapet is topped with a brick die finial. Inside, there is a stone pavement and a panelled rear dado, with a bench seat. Each return has a six-panel door, with the openings heightened; the left return features a later insertion and leads into later premises, while the left side retains a seat with a lid. The rear wall has a blocked segmental-arched head. Woolley House was remodelled in 1799, and it is likely that this garden seat was built around the same time.
