2/54 Garden seat approx 70 metres to North West of Woolley House

GV II

Garden seat. C1800 altered C19. Glazed blue brick in Flemish bond with red brick and ashlar dressings; concealed plain tile roof. Ashlar plinth, impost band and coping. Elliptical archway within which is wooden distyle in antiscolonnade having entablature with frieze with metopes and guttal tympanum pebbledash-rendered. Parapet with brick die finial. Inside is stone pavement and panelled rear dado. Latter bench seat. Returns each have a 6- panel door, the openings heightened, that to left return a later insertion, they lead into later prines, that on left side retaining seat with lid. Rear wall has blocked segmental-arched head. Woolley House (q.v.) was remodelled in 1799 and the garden seat is likely to have been erected at a similar date.
