7/50 Barn at Woolley Farm on East side of farmyard

Barn. 1st half C18, alterations and additions C19, further alterations early-mid C20. Timber frame with weatherboard cladding on brick and stone plinth. 8 bays,, aisled, with 2 hipped-roofed midstrays on each side. Midstrays have board doors with strap hinges with heart-shaped ends. Road elevation: right bay rebuilt in brick; half-hipped roof; brick addition at left end not of special interest. Rear: right door broken down left door has inset pedestrian door; range added on left not of special interest. Interior: jowelled posts on brick plinths with straight braces up to tie-beams and arcade plates and down to base wall ties (some of these curved slightly); wall framing is without mid-rail, has long raking braces, and old weatherboard to former rear wall. Roof trusses have double, stepped, collared queen posts; clasped through purlins; square section ridge-piece, partly replaced; some old rafters. Some replacement braces, arcade plates, rafters and roof trusses much of this work probably done in 1938, the date inscribed on bracket of front wall post (3rd from left).
