Description

The former Kennet Arms is a late 18th century or early 19th century building, possibly constructed in connection with the Kennet and Avon canal. It stands three storeys high and features a symmetrical facade with two bays on each side. The exterior is made of red and grey chequered brick, accented with stucco quoins. The Pell Street elevation has twin gables and is currently painted, while the Elgar Road elevation is finished in stucco. The building has multi-pane sash windows on the first and second floors. The roof is tiled in an M shape, with a brick block cornice and a central stack. The ground floor displays a pub front that includes a pulvinated fascia, panelled doors, window joinery, and plaster scrolls at the corners, all dating from around 1900. There is also a two-storey rear extension facing Elgar Road, which is of a similar age.
