Description
Number 86, Southampton Street is part of a terrace of buildings, numbers 75 to 84, although it has been significantly altered. It dates from around 1810 and was likely designed by Richard Billing senior. The building is three storeys high with a basement. It is rendered over brickwork and has a slate roof. Originally, there were two ranges of windows, but the glazing has been changed and one first-floor window has been shortened. A modern ground floor has been introduced. The rear elevation is less altered. A contemporary ramped staircase, used to access the upper floors, has been retained. The building is listed for its contribution to the group value of the surrounding properties. The original terrace extended further south, but was reduced in size when Pell Street was created in the 1890s.
