Description

Nos 32 to 40 on London Road are a terrace of houses that were formerly part of Portland Place and include Portland House at No 32. They were built before 1802 and consist of three storeys and a basement, with the western part featuring an attic. The buildings are constructed of red brick, with a Bath stone string course above the basement windows and a stucco string course at the first floor level. They have a simple stucco cornice and a brick parapet above. The roofs are part mansard with old tiles and part slate, featuring six dormer windows and glazing bar sash windows. There are fifteen windows on the upper floors, with small wrought iron balconies on the first floor. The ground floor has been altered and now includes fourteen windows and a doorway to the left, which features a six-panelled door with a radiating fanlight and a Doric portico, along with a frieze cornice and blocking course. To the right, there is a corresponding doorway that lacks a fanlight. The properties are also complemented by contemporary arrow head railings.
