Description

The Chapel at Reading School, built in the 1870s, is likely designed by Alfred Waterhouse, who also designed the school. It features a plain Early English style, constructed from English bond red brick with blue brick bands and decorative chequering, particularly at the eaves, which include small chevron details. The roof is tiled with fishscale patterns. The chapel has eight bays divided by buttresses, with five bays containing paired lancets. There is a small gabled porch on the south-west side and a single lancet on the east bay, along with a stepped triple lancet on the east. A small two-light ambled extension serves as a vestry, topped with a small belfry and a tall octagonal chimney. Inside, the chapel has plain brick walls, arch-braced collar beam trusses supported by corbels, and long benches along the sides.
