Description
The front block of St Andrew's Hall and the stable lodge to the north were originally known as East Thorpe and were built in 1880. Designed by Alfred Waterhouse as a house for Alfred Palmer, the building features two and three storeys of red brick with gables and a tiled roof, showcasing careful detailing and terracotta window details. The sash windows have segmental heads. The entrance front includes a single-storey porch inspired by Gothic architecture, flanked by two gables and a mullion and transom window. To the right, there is a gable with a two-storey canted bay window, while to the left, a three-storey block features an octagonal turret. The stable court includes a two-storey lodge attached to the main building. Although the interior has been altered, it still retains a spacious stair hall to the north with an original fireplace and dado, as well as a first-floor landing. The doors maintain Waterhouse furniture, and three windows and one door feature Waterhouse grisaille glass. The entrance lobby to the north also retains Waterhouse details and glass.
