Description

Forest School Chapel is a school chapel built in 1857 and enlarged in 1875 by William White. It is constructed of stock brick with red and blue banding and features a steeply pitched tiled roof. The aisleless nave has an unbroken roofline at the junctions with the chancel, and there are short low transepts. A bellcote with a shingled spire is located at the west end. The chapel is designed in an Early English/Geometrical Gothic style, with two-light brick plate-traceried windows in the nave and a three-light window at the east end. Triangular dormers with timber tracery are present on the roof. There is a projecting southwest porch and an enclosed buttressed corridor that connects the chapel to the main school buildings, featuring three-light windows. Inside, the chapel has an open timber hammerbeam and scissor truss roof, along with stalls that were sourced from Jesus College Chapel in Oxford. The east window contains stained glass by Morris and Co.
