Description
South House at Reading School was built in 1888 and designed by Charles Smith in a subdued Gothic style that reflects the design of Waterhouse's main block. The building features an irregular but restrained elevation, standing three storeys tall and constructed of red brick with grey brick bands for the cills and lintels. The façade has end gable breaks and a slight central break, with a layout of 2+5+3+3+1 bays and irregularly placed windows. Decorative gables adorn the four left-hand bays, and there are two half dormers on the right. The windows are segmental headed, fitted with plate glass sashes and bead moulded reveals. The gables include tripartite ground floor windows with moulded brick mullions, and there is a gabled porch next to the right-hand gable featuring a pointed doorway.
