Description
The barn at Coleypark Farm is a very large brick structure dating from around 1619. It is built in brick English bond and consists of six bays. The roof is made of old tiles, which have been patched with other tiles and partly with Roman tiles. The main part of the barn features two rows of vents and a central entrance with a segmental arch, flanked by buttresses. On the south side, which faces the courtyard, there is a projecting gable with a segmental arch over the lintel and lean-tos on either side.
Inside, the barn has a queen-post roof supported by two rows of purlins on each side, with the upper purlins featuring small windbraces. The three eastern bays have been repaired and do not have windbraces. There is a ventilated panel on the east side with a high lean-to shelter. The south wing, which is in an 'L' shape and slightly later in construction, has a smaller central gable with a weatherboarded tip and is partly timber-framed with brick. This wing has five bays and is aisled to the west, with a large shelter to the east. The interior of this wing also features a queen-post roof.
