Description
Coley Park House is an early 19th-century building, altered around 1840, designed by architect D A Alexander. The east front features two storeys and a central attic, with a rendered surface and a balustraded parapet above a cornice. The end two bays project forward on each side, creating a seven-bay front with glazing bar sash windows that have raised upper surrounds on guttae and keystones. An off-centre porte cochere has two arched bays and is also rendered. To the right of the centre, there is a small conservatory supported by twisted columns, and two dormers along with a small extension to the right. The original tripartite doorway has fluted mullions and an arcaded fanlight decorated with a Greek key pattern, topped with a Sungod mask from the 18th century. The doors are glazed. The south front has two bays, a three-storey segmental bay, and three additional bays. The west front features a three-bay arched loggia in the centre with a room above. Inside, there is a flagged hall with black corner lozenges and a staircase from around 1840, which has an arcaded landing on each side with marble balusters. The ground floor bow window room includes a fine marble chimneypiece, likely from the 18th century, depicting harvesting scenes. To the west, there is a large formal garden with a terraced and apsed centre, steps, walls, and hedges, along with circa 1800 piers at the end of the west wall.
