Description
Nos 3 and 5 Sidmouth Street are a pair of buildings from the 1880s, designed in the Butterfield Vicarage style. They are asymmetrical, which makes them visually interesting. Each building has one bay with two windows per floor, except for No 3, which has three windows on the ground floor and No 5, which has one window on the second floor. The windows are sash style with marginned glazing and feature stop-moulded reveals with splayed cills. The buildings are constructed of red brick with subtle polychromy and have a plinth, a band over the ground floor string, and an additional string above the arched second-floor windows of No 3 and the first-floor windows of No 5. The second-floor window of No 5 interrupts the over-arch string, which drops below it. The eaves have stepped and moulded courses, which return up the verges of the half-hip roof of No 3. The roofs are tiled, with No 5 having a hipped roof that includes second-floor windows and a half dormer with a half-hipped gable. There are large brick chimneys situated in the valley between the roofs. Each building has an entrance in an extruded apsidal two-storey extension on either side, featuring arched windows and short turrets, along with bulbous extensions on the garden side corners.
