Description
Nos 71 and 72 on East Street are a pair of 18th-century houses that stand three storeys tall. They feature a tiled roof with a hip at the western end and a small cornice with modillions just below the eaves. The houses are constructed of red brick and have three window bays. The second floor has sash windows with flush boxes set in flat arches, and there are two three-light bow windows on the first floor, with a single sash window featuring a rubbed brick voussoir in the centre. The buildings boast fine early to mid-19th-century shop fronts, complete with fascia boards that have moulded cornices above. Notably, No 71 has a dentilled cornice. The square bays include panelled stall risers, with pilasters flanking the doors and windows of No 71, while No 72 has panelled doors in reveals, except for the westernmost door.
