Description
The Shenley War Memorial is located on Shenley Road, near the Church of St Mary, which is listed as Grade I, as well as other Grade II-listed buildings such as Eagles Wings and Manor Farmhouse. The memorial features a tapered pillar made of York stone, topped with an intricately decorated entablature and a low pyramidal cap. This pillar is set on a two-stepped stone base, which is elevated on a concrete platform.
On the front face of the pillar, there is an inscription that reads "SHENLEY/ ROLL OF HONOUR/ 1914 – 1919," which lists 46 names of those who served, with those who died marked by an incised cross. The rear face of the memorial is dedicated with the words "IN THE MEMORY OF/ ALL/ WHO DIED IN THE/ SERVICE/ OF THEIR COUNTRY/ 1945 - PRESENT."
