Description
Eagles Wings is a late 18th century house, originally the Rectory, located on Shenley Road, Shenley Church End. The brick facade has been rendered and painted. It features a hipped slate roof with lead ridges, projecting brick chimneys, and three storeys on a high basement. The east front has three bays of sash windows; the outer bays are tripartite with segmental headed recesses on the ground and first floors, while the central bay has a full-height segmental arched recess containing a half-glazed double door and a three-pane fanlight with engaged Greek Doric columns in antis. A double flight of curved stone steps with plain wrought iron railings, terminating in scrolls, leads to the entrance. The north front also has three bays, with some windows altered. The south front is similarly arranged, with a two-storey wing to the west that has been altered and now functions as a separate dwelling. The interior was largely reconstructed in 1972 and 1974. The entrance hall features a groin vaulted ceiling and a semicircular arch to the staircase hall.
