Description
The Talbot Inn is a public house and restaurant located on London Road in Loughton. It dates back to the 17th century, with a refronting in the 18th century and later alterations. The building is constructed of buff brick featuring a chequer pattern of blue headers. It has a hipped tiled roof with three rectangular brick chimneys that have moulded bases, heads, and centre pilasters, along with a moulded wooden eaves cornice.
The inn is two storeys tall, with a plinth and a first-floor hand. The southwest front has five widely spaced bays, with 2-light cross casements on the first floor and a mix of 3, 4, and 2-light windows on the ground floor. The central entrance is semicircular headed and features a recessed modern door. The southeast front has two bays, with blank recesses on the left-hand side and 2-light cross casements on the right-hand side, along with a modern porch that has a hipped roof in the centre.
At the rear, there are modern additions. Inside, there is a large inglenook fireplace with a cambered lintel, although the interior has been otherwise altered.
