Description

Manor Farmhouse is a house that is said to include parts of a late 15th to early 16th century timber-framed hall house. It was reconstructed around 1580 by Valentine Piggot and his wife Anne, whose initials are displayed on the porch. The rear wing of the house is dated 1615. The building has undergone alterations in the 18th century, 19th century, and in 1912. It is constructed of limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and features an old tile roof with bands. The house is two stories high with central and flanking chimneys, the latter having diagonal shafts.

The south front has five bays with three-light windows, which were altered in the 19th century, although one window on the right-hand side of the ground floor retains its original stone frame and hoodmould. There is a two-story gabled porch in the second bay from the left, which has a three-light stone mullioned window above a four-centred arched stone doorway that is moulded and chamfered, with carved spandrels and a stone-coped gable. The west gable wall has two blocked stone mullioned windows.

Inside, the hall features moulded beams and a fireplace with a wide stone Tudor arch, cut spandrels, and a moulded edge. To the right of the fireplace, there is an early 18th-century corner cupboard, a niche with an arched head, and glazed doors. On the first floor, there is a smaller 16th-century stone fireplace, an original oak ledged door in a moulded and chamfered frame leading to the rooms above the porch, as well as other old door frames, some moulded and some chamfered. The interior also contains a series of well-preserved 16th-century wall paintings.
