Description
This is a pair of 17th-century half-timbered cottages located on Simpson Road. They are one storey high with attics, and have thatched roofs. The timber frames show tie beams, studding, and beaming in the gable ends. Number 456 has a 19th-century buff brick front with red brick dressings, while number 458 has an 18th-century diapered brick front. Each cottage features a single, small, eyebrowed attic casement window and two ground-floor wood casement windows, with plain doors. Internally, some beams are exposed, particularly in number 456, where parts of the roof trusses are visible. Numbers 456 and 458 are historically grouped with numbers 203 and 205 on the opposite side of the road.
