81, High Street

No. 81 High Street is a house with a shop, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of brick and features a Welsh slate mansard roof with a dormer. The building has a shop that was in operation during the 18th century, with the house accessed through a door on the left side. It stands three storeys tall and has a regular three-window arrangement. The windows have rubbed brick arches, flat except for the centre window on the first floor, which is ogee-shaped. There are aprons beneath the second-floor windows, and all windows, including those in the dormer, are 12-pane horned sashes. The exterior also features two large S-tie rods and a raised panel door leading to the house entry. The shopfront, dating from around 1900, has a deeply recessed central doorway. At the rear, there are 16-pane hornless sash windows on the main floors. Inside, some contemporary fittings remain, including first-floor panelling (with the panels concealed or removed but the muntins and rails intact), cyma moulded cornices, and stair dado panelling that ramps with the rail. The staircase itself has three turned balusters on each tread.
