Description
Salcombe Cottage is a house dated 1854, located on Wyles Street in Gillingham. The building is rendered and features brick lateral stacks on the right side, topped with a slate hipped roof. It has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with an attic and basement, displaying a two-window range.
The exterior includes a left-hand round-arched doorway with a moulded surround, a door featuring two tall flush panels, and a plate-glass fanlight above. There is a single round-arched window on the ground floor with a moulded surround, while the first-floor windows have plain surrounds and 6/6-pane sash windows. The basement features a segmental-arched window, and there is a single 3/6-pane top-hung casement with a cambered head. The overhanging eaves are supported by paired brackets flanking the upper windows. A raised panel on the first floor is inscribed with "SALCOMBE COTTAGE/ 1854."
Inside, the cottage has a hall with a round arch and a rear side dogleg stair that includes stick balusters. Additionally, there are attached cast-iron railings surrounding the basement area and entrance steps.
