20, Medway Road

No. 20 Medway Road is a house dating from the early 19th century. It is built of yellow stock brick with stone dressings, featuring a lateral stack and a slate hipped roof, designed in the Italianate style. The house has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with a basement, presenting a three-window range on the exterior. Notable architectural features include overhanging eaves, windows set in shallow vertical recesses, and rubbed brick arches. There are steps leading up to a right-hand segmental-arched doorway, which is also set in a matching recess and includes a plate-glass fanlight and a door with two tall raised panels. The ground-floor windows are round-arched, while the first-floor windows are flat-headed with 6/6-pane sashes. Additionally, there are two small basement windows. Inside, the house features an elliptical hall arch leading to a right-hand dogleg stair, panelled shutters, and six-panel doors. It is part of a group of similarly styled houses on Medway Road.
