Description
No. 12 Medway Road is a house built in the early 19th century. It is constructed from yellow stock brick with stone dressings and features a lateral stack and a slate hipped roof, showcasing an Italianate style. The building has two storeys and a basement, with a three-window range. Notable exterior features include overhanging eaves, windows set in shallow vertical recesses, and rubbed brick arches. There are steps leading up to a right-hand segmental-arched doorway, which is also set in a matching recess. This doorway has a plate-glass fanlight and a segmental-arched canopy, with a door that has eight raised panels. The ground-floor windows are round-arched, while the first-floor windows are flat-headed with 6/6-pane sashes. There are also two small basement windows. Inside, there is a central stair with stick balusters, panelled shutters, and six-panel doors, along with an unusual late 19th-century decorative toilet. This house is part of a group of similarly styled houses on Medway Road.
