Description

No. 10, Medway Road is an early 19th-century house. It is located within a group of similar houses on Medway Road. The construction is primarily yellow stock brick with stone dressings and a tiled hipped roof, with the first floor weatherboarded. The architectural style is Italianate.

The house has a double-depth plan, two storeys and a basement, and a three-window front. It features overhanging eaves and windows set in shallow vertical recesses, with rubbed brick arches above. Steps lead up to a central doorway, which is recessed and round-arched, with a plate-glass fanlight and a door consisting of two tall panels. The ground-floor windows are round-arched, and the first-floor windows are flat-headed, all with 6/6-pane sashes. Two small basement windows are also present. A moulded strip sits above the ground-floor windows, marking the transition to the boarded upper floor.

The interior has a hall arch leading to a central staircase with a curtail, cast-iron newel, stick balusters, and a wreathed rail. Original panelled shutters and six-panel doors remain.
