Description
No. 8 Medway Road is a house dating from the early 19th century. It is built of yellow stock brick with stone dressings, featuring lateral stacks and a slate hipped roof, designed in the Italianate style. The house has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with a basement, presenting a three-window range. The double-fronted exterior includes overhanging eaves, windows set in shallow vertical recesses, and rubbed brick arches. There are steps leading up to a central segmental-arched doorway, which is also set in a matching recess and features a plate-glass fanlight and a door with two tall raised panels. The ground-floor windows are round-arched, while the first-floor windows are flat-headed with 6/6-pane sashes. There are two small basement windows. Inside, the property has an elliptical hall arch leading to a central stair with a curtail, a decorative cast-iron newel, stick balusters, panelled shutters, and six-panel doors. This house is part of a group of similarly styled houses on Medway Road.
