Description

Holmcourt is a house that was formerly two cottages, one of which included a shop. It likely dates from the 18th century. The building is constructed of plastered stone rubble, with the service block made of exposed local Salcombe stone rubble. It features stone rubble stacks topped with 19th and 20th-century brick, and has a thatched roof with slate on the rear outshots.

The house faces northeast onto the lane and has a two-room plan in the main block at the right (northwest) end, which includes a central entrance hall and stair. The right room has a rear corner stack, while the left room has an axial stack that backs onto the lower service block. The service block was once a separate two-room cottage with a left gable-end stack, but the partition has been removed to create a large kitchen. The right room of the main block was previously a shop facing northwest, although the old shop window has since been removed.

The main block is two storeys tall, while the service block is single storey, with secondary outshots at the rear. The exterior of the main block features a nearly symmetrical two-window front, with all horned four-pane sashes except for a fixed pane window on the ground floor right. The central doorway has a 20th-century part-glazed door with a contemporary thatch hood. The service block has three 20th-century casements with glazing bars, with the center one blocking a former doorway. The roof steps down from the main block to the service end. The interior was not inspected during the survey, but original carpentry detail is suspected.
