SY 18 NE BRANSCOMBE STREET (south side)

7/50 Holmcourt - GV II House, formerly 2 cottages and 1 included a shop. Probably C18. Plastered stone rubble, the service block is exposed local Salcombe stone rubble; stone rubble stacks topped with C19 and C20 brick; thatch roof, slate to rear outshots. Plan: the house faces north-east onto the lane. The main block, at the right (north-west) end has a 2-room plan with central entrance hall and stair. The right room has a rear corner stack and the left room has an axial stack backing onto the lower service block. This service block was once a separate 2-room plan cottage with a left gable-end stack. The partition has been removed to create a large kitchen. At the opposite end, the right room of the main block, was formerly a shop facing north-west but the old shop window has been removed. Main block is 2 storeys, the service block is single storey. Secondary outshots to rear. Exterior: the main block has a nearly symmetrical 2-window front, all horned 4-pane sashes except for the fixed pane window ground floor right. Central doorway contains a C20 part-glazed door with contemporary thatch hood. The service block has 3 C20 casements with glazing bars, the centre one blocking a former doorway. The roof is stepping down from the main block to the service end. Interior was not available for inspection at the time of this survey but original carpentry detail is suspected.
