Description

The Yew Tree Cottage is a house, originally two cottages, likely dating from the 18th century with alterations in the mid-19th century. The construction is primarily of plastered cob and rubble, with a front facade of snecked local stone and brick dressings. It has stone rubble stacks topped with 19th and 20th-century brick, and a thatched roof. Originally facing west, the right (southern) former cottage had a two-room plan, while the left had a single-room plan. Each end room features a rear lateral stack. The front has an irregular arrangement of four windows, with 19th and 20th-century replacement casements, most with glazing bars. A secondary addition has blocked the ground floor window on the left side, and the window above is blind. All openings are framed with brick, with the former doorway (now a window) and the window above featuring low segmental arches. The doorway on the right side has a mid-19th-century plank door and a contemporary porch with a light wrought-iron frame, now covered by a gabled zinc roof. The roof is half-hipped at each end. The interior exhibits simple carpentry details where visible.
