Description
Gooseberry Cottage is a cottage from the late 18th century that has been modernised with an extension around 1970. The main part of the house is made of plastered cob and stone rubble, featuring a stone rubble or cob stack with a plastered brick chimney shaft, and a thatched roof, while the extension has a slate roof. Originally, it was a one-room plan cottage facing south with a projecting right (east) end stack. The main house is two storeys tall, and the extension is single storey.
The front of the cottage has three windows, which are casements with glazing bars from around 1970, along with a contemporary door located at the left end. The eaves are notably deep but break back above the windows, creating an eyebrow effect. The roof is steeply pitched and hipped at both ends. The 20th-century extension features two windows with glazing bars and a door adjacent to the main house, with a gable-ended roof.
Inside, the cottage includes a crossbeam with a roughly-chamfered soffit, and the oak lintel of the large rubble fireplace has a similar finish. The roof has not been inspected.
