Description

The west gate and gate piers to the churchyard of the Church of St Peter were likely built between 1850 and 1853. The gate posts are made of squared blocks of local mudstone and feature moulded ashlar capitals. They are square in section, topped with a roll-moulded cap and weathered coping. The gate itself is set in an iron frame that includes an overthrow and a lamp-holder above. The gate has stiles with scrolled finials and consists of a series of spear-headed rails, alternating between full height and just above the lock-bar. This gate is part of a group of attractive listed structures located around the central crossroads of the village.
