Description
No 127 is a house with a shop located on Eastgate in Rochester. The building has an early 19th-century front that conceals an early 18th-century structure. It is made of brick, painted on the front, and features a hipped roof covered with Kent tiles. The building has three storeys and two tall internal lateral stacks.
The front facade has a regular arrangement of two windows, topped with a parapet that includes a cornice band and stone coping. The upper floors feature 12-pane hornless sash windows set beneath flat brick arches with key blocks. The ground floor has a late 20th-century shop front, with a recessed doorway to the left that includes a half-glazed window beneath a rectangular overlight.
Inside, the building retains some original ceiling beams, the upper flight of an early 18th-century rear staircase, and an early 19th-century fire surround.
