Description
26 and 27 Union Street are buildings dating from around 1830. They are three storeys tall and have a stucco facade. The double pitch gable end slate roof is concealed at the front by a cornice and parapet. The buildings feature three windows. On the second floor, the windows are recessed sash types without glazing bars and have block sills, with the center window being blind. The first floor has outer windows that are canted bays with three-light sash windows, also without glazing bars. These windows have architrave moulding around their frames and are divided by fluted pilasters, with a frieze and moulded cornice above. The ground floor of No 26 has an attractive Victorian shop front with flanking panelled pilasters and capped brackets above the fascia. It features a central doorway with windows that curve in, consisting of four arcaded lights each, supported by brass colonettes with moulded capitals and bases. The door is glazed and has a rectangular fanlight. No 27 has a modern plate glass shop front.
