Description
Nos 28 and 30 The Thoroughfare are buildings dating from the 18th century or early 19th century, featuring a mid to late 19th century stuccoed front with a later painted brick parapet. The buildings have chamfered quoins and are two storeys tall. They have four windows, with the right-hand section projecting. The windows are sashes without glazing bars, set in moulded architraves with cambered heads and keyblocks. The ground floor has a large altered Victorian shop front. To the right, there is a doorway with a cornice supported by console brackets and a moulded architrave.
At the rear, facing Broad Street, there are two wings, each with hipped roofs—one covered with pantiles and the other with slates. The wing of No 28 features a wider moulded doorcase and a three-light window above. The wing of No 30 is constructed of flint with brick dressings; its ground floor has a central doorway flanked by fixed-light windows with glazing bars, all set in a reeded architrave. Above, there is a two-light casement window.
