Description
Ancient House is a 16th-century timber-framed building with a plastered front, located on the west side of The Thoroughfare in Harleston. It features a steeply-pitched black glazed pantile roof with gable ends, and it stands two storeys high with an attic. The building has two windows, which are three-light mullion/transom casements. The first floor overhangs on moulded brackets and a carved bressumer. The ground floor has a late 19th-century pilastered shop front with a cornice and a blind case, along with a moulded doorcase on the left that contains a late 19th-century panelled door. There is also a later wedge-shaped dormer and a large brick chimney with four diagonally set brick flues. Inside, the building features moulded ceiling beams.
