Description
Cracknells is a mid-18th century house with an addition dating from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of ironstone rubble to the front elevation, stone rubble to the rear, and features red brick dressings. A modern tiled roof is topped with brick chimneystacks. The building is two storeys and has attic accommodation, with three windows on the front. The windows are 12-pane sashes set within moulded architraves. Two modern dormers have been added. A modern 15-pane door is centrally positioned, although it is now accessed via a 20th-century porch on the side. The gable exhibits some collapsing stonework. The rear elevation incorporates a coursed rubble extension, likely dating from the late 18th or early 19th century, which contains two blocked pointed-head windows, probably originally part of a chapel. A T-shaped wing was added in the mid-19th century. Inside, the ground floor room on the right has a fireplace with fluted pilasters and a two-panelled door. The house was formerly the residence of Admiral Sir Manley Power and Alfred Lord Topham.
