Description

Hill Lodge is a late 18th-century house situated in Freshwater, Isle of Wight. It is constructed of coursed stone rubble with brick dressings, and has a slate roof. The building is L-shaped and has two and a half storeys and three windows. Two dormers, dating to the mid-19th century, contain six-pane sashes. The other windows are 12-pane sashes. A central doorcase features an open pediment, pilasters, a semi-circular fanlight, and a six-panelled door. A service wing, built of red brick and stone rubble, has 20th-century windows. The sitting room retains an 18th-century fireplace decorated with swags and urns, and is flanked by china cabinets with serpentine shelves. Mid-19th century firegrates are present in the bedrooms.
