Description

The terrace at 8–19 Camelford Street consists of late 18th-century townhouses. Most are built of painted brick in Flemish bond, with Nos. 8, 9, and 16 faced with stucco. All have tile roofs.

The houses are arranged as two storeys with dormers above a basement, with No. 17 being three storeys with dormers above a basement. They generally have one window each. Entrance doorways vary: No. 17 has a round arched entrance with a decorative fanlight, while Nos. 10 and 11 have overlights. The remaining entrances are flat-arched, with canopies supported on brackets at Nos. 9, 12, 13, and 18. Console brackets support the canopies at Nos. 10, 13, 15, and 16. A particularly elaborate, carved wood door surround at No. 11, possibly dating back to the 18th century but likely inserted in the 20th century, features fluted pilasters with lion head capitals and a rich entablature of the Corinthian order, egg-and-dart cornices, and a cyma recta carved with pointed leaves and acanthus modillions. A through-passage with an iron gate is located to the left of this entrance. Full-height bays are present at Nos. 8–18, with Nos. 12–14 having segmental bays and the others canted. A brick dentil cornice is found at Nos. 10, 11, 13, and 18. Flat-arched dormers are present at Nos. 8–16 and 19; the dormer on No. 8 spans the full width of the house, and the dormer on No. 9 is treated as a rounded bay with leaded lights. The roof of No. 18 is currently undergoing replacement. Stacks are situated on the party walls. The interior has not been inspected.
